Let Me Ride

Let Me Ride

When I need comfort, I take a mental break and go back to the farm and ride my horse. I can still feel the freedom and the wind in my hair. All of the passion and certainty I felt as a young girl that made me believe in myself and my dreams is still there, welling up inside. This gives me the courage to start again.

Willin’

Willin’

This song is very special to me. It is about never giving up and never giving in and all you have to be is ‘willin’. I hope you will download this song and belt it out with me – it is a fun song to sing. You cannot have a bad day or mood if you are singing this song. Give it a try.

BTW: A publisher picked up this song to pitch to a large Christian project. Fingers crossed!

Nowhere To Go

Nowhere To Go

Almost everyone has had hard times in their lives when they think they may not be able to turn it around and then, they do. They are protected and cared for in ways even they hadn’t thought of. I hope you like this song and the story it tells. When I first heard Buddy Hyatt play the intro on the piano, I had tears in my eyes because I felt like my mom heard his playing all the way to Heaven.

Tell Me About It (Demo)

Tell Me About It (Demo)

I wrote this song after saying ‘Tell me about it’ to someone and I thought, hey, I’m going to write that down. A recurring theme in my songwriting. I either blurt it out or dream about it. Either way, I like to see them as little gifts to keep me encouraged enough to go on and write some more. I like the layers to this song. The poor guy loves this fool and is waiting on her to grow up. He is also fed up, so you aren’t quite sure what he will do. Everyone has been hurt, so I think this song might resonate if you were on the receiving end.

Ron Wallace brought this song to life. He is a top Nashville demo singer and I was so blessed to stand there and watch him belt this song out.

A Place Way Down

A Place Way Down

This song came to me in a dream (one of my favorite ways to receive a song). Someday, I want to write the screenplay I have in my head every time I sing this song. The details are so vivid, I am sure this is a woman who wants me to know her story and tell it to you. The clearest part of the dream is the courage it took for her to leave everything she knew and travel halfway across the country to marry a man she had never met.

Hop on the train with her and stand beside her as she meets her man.

I Want My Country Back (Demo)

I Want My Country Back (Demo)

I had just heard a country song with rap mixed in. Though I did try to keep an open mind, I had the thought of – man, I want my country back. From there, I thought of all the other ways I wanted my country back – the country lifestyle and values instilled in my beliefs as a child sitting next to Grandma in Morning Star church; the disappearing country lifestyles of farm families; and the loss of God in our everyday lives.

I hope you find something in this song that reminds you of the ‘good old days’ and the things that made your life sweet as a child.

As one publisher said, “This song is straight up country.” Put on your boots and have a listen.

A special thanks to Ron Wallace that really brought this song to life!

Shorter Long Shot

Shorter Long Shot

While I made plans to go to Nashville and record, I set goals to meet people and learn more about songwriting. My intention was to make this adventure a ‘shorter long shot’. I blurted that statement out in a phone conversation (another way I love to receive songs) and had to hurry and write it down. I love the hook of this song. Couldn’t we all use a little shorter long shot?

Count On Me

Count On Me

I wrote this song for our friends’ wedding. They had taken dancing lessons and so I set it to a bosa nova beat. It’s a good memory of them holding each other to the song. For the thumbnail photo to the this song, I added a watercolor portrait I painted of my Dad when he was 18. He was always someone you could ‘count on’. Just seemed to fit.
